Easton, Maryland – The Talbot Optimist Club is encouraging area youth to speak their minds about the topic “How My Optimism Will Help Me Press On to Greater Achievements of the Future,” as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for the 2014-2015 year. This year’s contest will be held at the Avalon Theatre in Easton on April 15, 2015. The Talbot Optimist is accepting entries from Talbot County youth and the surrounding counties as well.
The Optimist Club will judge the local youths’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine top winners. The winning speeches will be sent to the zone level, and possibly the district level for the opportunity to win college scholarships. Last year’s Talbot Optimist winner, Tyler Judd of Easton, went on to also win the district competition.
Students under the age of 19, who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent, are eligible to participate.
“As they prepare for their future, many of our local youth need experience expressing their thoughts and opinions to an audience,” Club President Rick VanEmburgh said. “The Oratorical Contest challenges them to do just that and also offers an opportunity for scholarships. In this way, our club hopes to bring out the best in each of them and help them to achieve their goals for the future.”
The deadline for submitting applications to participate is April 14th. Youth wishing to participate in the oratorical contest can find out more about the contest by contacting Club President, Rick VanEmburgh at 410-253-8484 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
